I hope you have understood Simile by now. Lets move on to the next Figure of speech.

                                   Metaphor:-
     A metaphor is an implied simile. Like simile it doesnot state that one thing is like another, but takes for granted and proceeds as if the two things were one.

       Thus the difference between the two ie. Simile and Metaphor in a same sentence could be:-

1(a). He fought like a lion.(Simile)
  (b). He was a lion in the fight.(Metaphor)

2(a). The camel is the ship of the desert.(Metaphor)
  (b).As a ship is used to cross an ocean, the camel is used to cross a desert.(Simile)

Note:- Never mix a Metaphor.
         This means an object should not be identified with two or more different things at the same time .

Example of mixed Metaphor :-

     I smell  a rat; I see it floating in the air, but I will nip it in the bud.


                           Personification:-

  In  personification, inanimate (dead) objects and abstract notions (ideas / beliefs) are spoken off as having life and intelligence.

Examples :-

1. Laughter holding both the sides.

2. Death lays his icy hands on kings.

This is just an attempt to make grammar easy for the kids as well as help them score maximum marks with ease.

A figure of speech is a departure ( a change from the usual form ) from the ordinary form of expression to produce a greater effect. Figures of speech can be classified as:-

(a) Those based on ressemblence (similarity) such as :- Simile, Metaphor, Personification and apostrophe.

(b) Those based on contrast such as Antithesis  and Epigram.

(c) those baesd on Association (connection or link) such as Metonymy and Synecdoche.

(d) Those depending on construction (formation of a sentence) such as Climax, Anticlimax.


                          Explanation:-

                             SIMILE :-
     In simile a comparison is made between two objects of different kinds which however have atleast one point in common.
     It is usually introduced by words such as:- like,so & as.
     Some commons comparisons which you are aware of are:-
1. as graceful as a peacock
2. as light as a feather
3. as  cunning / sly as a fox
4. as black as coal
5. as hard as a diamomd

BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
     A comparison of two things of the same kind is not a simile .

    Some examples of simile are:-
1.Life is as tedious as a twice-told tale.
2.O my Love's like the melodie.
